Failing to Kill the Game
Croatia secured a 1-0 victory, but they made it incredibly hard. Ante Budimir gave them a crucial lead early in the second half. Panama immediately pushed players forward to chase the game. This left massive gaps in the Panamanian defensive line. Marco Pasalic found himself completely alone with the goalkeeper.
The Ultimate Choke
Pasalic executed a terrifyingly fast counterattack in the 57th minute. He faced Panamanian goalkeeper Orlando Mosquera one-on-one. Mosquera produced a brilliant initial save to deny the shot. The rebound fell perfectly to Pasalic with an empty net waiting. Incredibly, he skied the ball completely over the crossbar.
Surviving the Tension
This shocking miss kept Panama completely alive in the match. Croatia suffered through thirty minutes of intense, terrifying pressure. Edgar Yoel Barcenas earned a yellow card for Panama. Petar Sucic took a late booking for Croatia. Pasalic owes his defensive teammates a massive apology today.
